I thought there was some other circumstance where crows look a lot smarter than we give them credit for. It might have been using tools or something. Whenever we look at other creatures, we think a lot of ourselves, and preen about our superiority. Which is kind of funny when you think about it.
Crows have been filmed making a hook in a piece of metal so they could reach something in a jar. Also, they have been filmed putting hard-to-crack nuts in the road to be run over by cars, breaking them open. Crows also remember human faces for years, and they teach their young which humans to avoid. These are just some of the established skills the crows have developed.
When we lived in Alaska, a doctor told me, "There are no stupid, old Eskimoes." And I think it's the same with Crows. If they're dumb, they don't make it.
